What is Retinol?
Retinol is a form of Vitamin A that speeds up skin cell turnover, stimulates collagen production, and unclogs pores. It is one of the most studied skincare ingredients, effective for reducing fine lines, acne, and hyperpigmentation.
Retinol vs Tretinoin
Tretinoin is 20 times more potent than retinol but requires a prescription in Pakistan. Retinol is converted to retinoic acid by your skin β slower but gentler. Start with over-the-counter retinol (0.025-0.1%) before considering tretinoin.
The Purge Phase
Many people experience 4-6 weeks of worsening breakouts as increased cell turnover brings underlying congestion to the surface. This is normal. Stick with it β results after the purge are significant.
How to Introduce Retinol
Start with 0.025-0.1% concentration. Apply a pea-sized amount two nights per week. Build toward nightly use over 3-6 months. Always use SPF the next morning. Avoid mixing with other actives initially.
