Kharish ka lotion in Pakistan is usually pharmacy shorthand for a medicated anti-itch product — calamine, an antihistamine cream, or a steroid lotion for allergic rashes, insect bites, or conditions like scabies. BigBasket.pk is a skincare and beauty store, so we don't stock those medicated pharma lotions.
But by far the most common cause of ongoing kharish across Pakistan is simple dry, barrier-damaged skin — from hard water, harsh soaps, and dry winters in Lahore and Islamabad — and for that, dermatologist-recommended ceramide moisturizers like CeraVe genuinely stop the itch at the source, not just numb it.
What "Kharish Ka Lotion" Usually Means in Pakistan
In Pakistani pharmacies, "kharish ka lotion" is used loosely for calamine lotion, hydrocortisone or antihistamine creams, and sometimes antifungal or anti-scabies treatments — a shelf of very different medicines grouped together because they all promise itch relief. The problem is that kharish (itching) has several unrelated causes: an allergic reaction, a mosquito or bed-bug bite, a fungal patch, scabies (khujli), eczema, or simply dry skin. Each needs a different active ingredient, so a single "kharish lotion" bought without knowing the cause often does little.
BigBasket.pk is a skincare and beauty retailer, not a pharmacy, so we don't stock medicated anti-itch drugs like calamine, hydrocortisone, or antihistamine creams — those require a pharmacist or doctor. What we can genuinely help with is the single biggest cause of everyday, recurring kharish across Pakistan: dry, barrier-damaged skin. For that, a proper moisturizing lotion is not a workaround — it is the actual first-line treatment dermatologists recommend.
Dry Skin (Xerosis) Is the Real Cause Behind Most Everyday Kharish
A huge share of the itching people search "kharish ka lotion" for is xerosis — clinical dry skin. In Pakistan this is made worse by hard or borewell water, harsh bar soaps that strip natural oils, long hot showers, dry winter air in Lahore and Islamabad, and constant air-conditioning switching in Karachi's humidity. When the skin's ceramide and lipid barrier weakens, moisture escapes faster than it's replaced, nerve endings near the surface become more reactive, and the result is itching without any rash, blister, or pus.
This type of kharish tends to be symmetrical, worse on the shins, forearms, and back, flares right after bathing, and gets noticeably worse in cold, dry months. If that description matches what you're dealing with, the fix isn't a medicated cream — it's rebuilding the skin barrier with the right lotion, applied consistently, not just when the itch flares up.
How Ceramide Moisturizers Actually Stop the Itch (Not Just Mask It)
CeraVe's moisturizers are formulated with three ceramides — ceramides 1, 3, and 6-II — identical to the lipids naturally found in healthy skin, along with hyaluronic acid to pull in and hold water. They're delivered through CeraVe's patented MVE (MultiVesicular Emulsion) technology, which releases hydration in slow layers for close to 24 hours instead of evaporating within an hour like a basic lotion.
This matters because it treats the actual mechanism of dry-skin kharish: rebuilding the barrier reduces water loss through the skin, which calms the itch-scratch cycle at its source rather than numbing the sensation temporarily the way a menthol or calamine product does. All CeraVe formulas here are fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, which matters in Pakistan since perfumed soaps and lotions are one of the most common everyday irritants that make itching worse. They're developed with dermatologists and safe for daily, long-term use on face and body.

Which CeraVe Lotion to Pick for Itchy, Dry Skin
For widespread body itching, the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream, Body and Face Moisturizer (PKR 4,800) is the most complete option — a rich, tub-format cream you can use on face and body alike. If your kharish covers larger areas or more than one person in the house is dealing with dry-season itching, the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream 340g (PKR 7,950) is the better-value large tub.
For very dry, flaky, itchy patches on elbows, knees, or shins, the richer CeraVe Moisturizing Cream – 236ml (PKR 5,450) works well. If you want something lighter to apply daily across the whole body without feeling heavy under shalwar kameez or in Karachi's humidity, the CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion – 237ml (PKR 6,045) absorbs faster. And if the itching is concentrated on the face, especially at night, the CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion (PKR 5,400) adds niacinamide and is light enough to wear to bed without clogging pores.
How to Apply It So the Itching Actually Stops
A ceramide lotion only works if it's used correctly. Apply it within three minutes of bathing, while skin is still slightly damp — this is when the skin absorbs the most moisture and locks it in. Use lukewarm water instead of hot for baths and wudu where possible, since hot water strips the same lipids you're trying to restore. Switch to a fragrance-free, mild cleanser instead of a heavily perfumed bar soap, which is one of the most common irritants making kharish worse in Pakistani households.
Apply twice daily — morning and night — even after the itching calms down, since the barrier needs continuous support to fully repair; stopping as soon as symptoms ease is the most common reason kharish keeps coming back. Avoid scratching where possible, as broken skin is more prone to infection and takes longer to heal. Most people notice less itching within a few days of consistent use, with fuller improvement over two to four weeks.
When Kharish Needs More Than a Lotion
A moisturizer will not fix itching caused by an infection, infestation, or allergic reaction, and using one as a substitute for proper treatment can delay recovery. See a dermatologist or pharmacist instead of self-treating if you notice a spreading rash, small burrow-like lines or intense itching that's worse at night (possible scabies), blisters, oozing or pus, fever, or itching that started right after a new soap, detergent, or medicine (possible allergic reaction).
Ringworm and other fungal patches also need an antifungal, not a moisturizer, and eczema flare-ups usually need a prescribed treatment alongside daily moisturizing, not instead of it. In all of these cases, a ceramide lotion like CeraVe is still useful afterward, to repair the dry, damaged skin left behind and prevent it from becoming a second, ongoing source of itching — but it should support medical treatment, not replace it.
Common Mistakes
- Assuming any pharmacy "kharish lotion" fixes all itching — scabies, fungal infections, and allergic rashes need medicated treatment, not just a moisturizer.
- Using scented soaps or lotions on already-itchy skin, which adds irritation instead of calming it.
- Applying lotion only when the itch flares up, instead of twice daily, so the skin barrier never fully repairs.
- Taking long, hot showers or baths, which strips the natural oils that keep dry-skin itching under control.
- Buying unbranded "kharish lotion" from local markets without checking authenticity — counterfeit medicated creams are a real risk in Pakistan.
- Skipping moisturizer right after bathing — the first three minutes, while skin is still damp, is when it locks in the most hydration.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does BigBasket.pk sell kharish ka lotion in Pakistan?+
Not the medicated kind — we don't stock calamine, hydrocortisone, or antihistamine anti-itch creams, since those need a pharmacist or doctor. What we do stock are dermatologist-recommended ceramide moisturizers like CeraVe Moisturizing Cream, which treat kharish caused by dry, barrier-damaged skin, the most common everyday cause in Pakistan.
What actually works for itchy, dry skin in Pakistan?+
If the itching is from dry skin rather than an infection or allergy, a fragrance-free ceramide moisturizer applied twice daily works best. CeraVe Moisturizing Cream (PKR 4,800) and CeraVe Moisturizing Cream – 236ml (PKR 5,450) are both formulated with ceramides 1, 3, and 6-II plus hyaluronic acid to rebuild the skin barrier and stop water loss, which calms the itch at its source.
Can I use CeraVe for scabies or an allergic rash?+
No — CeraVe is a moisturizer, not a medicated treatment, so it won't clear scabies, a fungal infection, or an allergic reaction. See a dermatologist or pharmacist for the correct medicine first; you can then use a CeraVe lotion afterward to repair the dry skin left behind and prevent it from itching again.
How long does it take for a moisturizing lotion to stop itching?+
Most people feel less itching within a few days of applying a ceramide lotion twice daily, with fuller improvement over two to four weeks as the skin barrier repairs. Applying it within three minutes of bathing, while skin is still damp, speeds this up noticeably.
Is CeraVe suitable for sensitive or eczema-prone itchy skin?+
Yes — CeraVe's fragrance-free, ceramide-and-hyaluronic-acid formulas are commonly recommended for sensitive and eczema-prone dry skin. During an active eczema flare, use it alongside a dermatologist-prescribed treatment rather than as a replacement for it.
Does BigBasket.pk deliver these moisturizers with Cash on Delivery?+
Yes, BigBasket.pk delivers nationwide with Cash on Delivery, including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, so you can order genuine CeraVe products without paying upfront.
The Short Version
TL;DR: "Kharish ka lotion" usually means a medicated anti-itch cream, which BigBasket.pk doesn't stock — but most recurring itching in Pakistan is actually caused by dry, barrier-damaged skin, and that responds well to a fragrance-free ceramide moisturizer like CeraVe Moisturizing Cream used daily right after bathing.
